Premier League Preview – Fixture Madness! (Part Two)

TUESDAY

Amusingly, Footie Frog’s big question of the weekend has been answered resoundingly. On Saturday I asked ‘will Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea finally just admit that none of them stands a chance this season, and let go [of Man Utd’s coat-tails] entirely?’
Come Tuesday (following a defeat, draw and victory respectively) Footie Frog had his answers. Benitez publicly conceded the title was out of their reach, Hiddink is a little more defiant but still says ‘realistically it will be difficult,’ while the pressure is on Wenger to just make that essential fourth place ‘Reaching the tournament [the Champions League] is not just important, it is vital.’
So surely Manchester United have nobody in their way in their quest for the title? Chelsea are the only team that can realistically cause an upset, but that looks unlikely given the manner of recent performances. If Drogba can re-find the scintillating form of recent seasons then the Blues stand a chance, if not Footie frog doesn’t think they have enough goals in them to win it.

Goals seem to be hard to come by for all United’s challengers of late, with every team down to 5th except Chelsea scoreless at the weekend. But Hiddink’s Blues needed a spectacular goal from Terry at the weekend, and they need their forwards to get back amongst the goal, starting tonight at Fratton Park as Chelsea visit struggling Portsmouth. A weary Blues side could find it hard to break down a Pompey team that hasn’t played in ten days, and though Footie Frog feels an away win is on the cards, they will have another battle on their hands.
Battles too are in store for Liverpool, who welcome Sunderland to Anfield, and Arsenal, who travel to the desperate West Brom. Both of the big boys will be facing sides that could want this match more than they do, and the relegation fighters could cause some scares tonight. Without Torres and Adebayor respectively, goals could be hard to come by once again for the sides in red, but they both should get three points.
